A Gallant Session

SESSION: "[...] a gathering of traditional Irish musicians with the aim of celebrating their shared interest in music, playing in an informal and relaxed setting, enriching, in the process, the mystical and cultural mantra that together resonates unbroken among all manifestations of 'Irishness' around the world.” [Barry Foy, Field Guide to the Irish Music Session].

This program is based on a combination of the elegance and complexity of Baroque music with the passion and energy of the folk music tradition from the British isles, blending the movements of Sonatas and Triosonatas by Francesco Geminiani with the evocative “Scots” tunes collected by Francesco Barsanti and James Oswald. Preludes, Jigs, Laments, and Sonata movements follow one another in a continuous flow, recalling the lively and authentic atmosphere of the most respectable folk music sessions. This musical journey performed by filoBarocco follows the actual journey that Francesco Geminiani and Francesco Barsanti did towards the British Isles in the 18th century, where they have spent most of their music career.
